Another great campsite is the Strathclyde Country Park Club Site, which is situated close to Glasgow yet manages to remove itself completely from the bustle and business of a metropolis, and make you feel like you must be in deep countryside. The country park is a mere 10 minute walk from the site, with 1,000 acres of mature woodlands, wetlands, wildlife refuges and neat open parkland. Thus, making this an ideal location for avid hikers, biker or general explorers! The site is also situated close to several sites of historic interest, such as the Bothwellhaugh Roman fort and bath house. The shops and museums of Glasgow are within easy reach of the site, so retail therapy is never far away!

Things to do in Glasgow

Whilst there are plenty of things to do in Glasgow, since you have a motorhome at your disposal we’ll mention some close trips to take whilst in the area!

Stirling Castle located a mere 30 minutes drive from Glasgow is definitely worth a visit. Stirling is the famed location of the Battle of Bannockburn in the year 1314 - in which Robert the Bruce defeated the English. The history doesn’t end there however, as it was also the place where the legendary William Wallace again defeated the English at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. Both of these battles are commemorated at the Bannockburn Heritage Centre. If you leave Stirling and head to the picturesque village of Bridge of Allan you will find the impressive Wallace Monument, a towering 246-step tower with amazing views of the area.

If you fancy yourself a botanist (or you just like plants), Benmore Botanic Garden north of Glasgow is well worth visiting. The garden is set amidst the spectacularly rugged mountain scenery to the north the city Loch Eck’s southern shore. An impressive avenue of giant Californian redwoods, planted in 1863 line the long path up to the property, where you'll be rewarded with a chance to mosey around over 300 different species of rhododendron and azaleas. When there, Puck's Hut, is an interesting part of the gardens to see. A wooden memorial to Isaac Bayley Balfour, the man who came up with the idea to create the gardens. Nearby Argyll Forest Park is definitely worth checking out. Established back in 1935, it was the first of its kind in Britain and has an incredible 186 mile network of footpaths.

Events in Glasgow

As a UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow hosts around 130 music events each week. The largest of these is Celtic Connections in January, which is the largest winter music festival of its kind, and then World Pipe Band Championships every August.
