DROP OFF AND PICK-UP TIMES CAN BE VARIED - please ask!
Spike is our custom converted VW Transporter T5.1. He’s super-easy to drive and manoeuvre and has a reversing camera integrated into the auto-dimming rear mirror to help with parking. He has low mileage and is well maintained and reliable.
He can accommodate 2 adults on the main bed, and 2 children or 1 -2 adults in the elevating roof bed. He’s ready to go off-grid with a 180W solar panel that can power the fridge with optional freezer compartment, integrated LED lights and Upoints to charge your gadgets for several days in good weather. If the sunshine does run out, you can connect to an electric hook up using the long cable reel provided, or just drive to your next destination to charge up the leisure battery.
You can cook on the 2-burner hob or in the gas fired oven/grill. The overhead shelf is deceptively spacious and so is the side cupboard. The indoor table clips on and off and can be stowed away when not in use, and the passenger front seat swivels to create a cosy armchair facing the back seats. Spike comes with eco-friendly bamboo ‘melamine’ plates for 4 people, cups, cutlery, kettle, pans and other cooking essentials. You’ll need to bring your own bedding and towels (except tea-towels), but a comfy memory foam mattress topper is provided for the main bed and there's a full width 4cm memory foam mattress on the roof bed. We also include 2 adult camping chairs and a decent sized sturdy camping table for outdoor dining, plus levelling blocks for those wild or pop up campsites.
If you prefer more ambient lighting in the evening, you can turn off the main lights and use the battery-powered fairy lights attached to the wood-clad underside of the elevating roof bed. The curtains are all made from blackout material, including the windows in the cab.
We store our bedding on the back-facing rear seat when we’re travelling, but there’s also loads of space in the main wardrobe cupboard, together with a hanging rail.
Regrettably there are no Isofix points in Spike.
Dogs are welcome but there’s really only space for 1 large or 2 smaller dogs in this van. We don't charge extra for dogs.
Also available to hire for an extra charge:
- Sun canopy (for fine weather only – it’s not stable in wind) for £12.50 a night OR
- Drive-away awning with fitted carpet for £25 a night - takes some effort to put up but worth it if you're planning to stay at the same site for a few nights
Thanks for looking. We hope that you’ll love holidaying in Spike as much as we do. He’s our only van and we use him regularly, so we’d really appreciate you taking good care of him.
