Total disappointment and frustration.
The purpose of my trip was to travel to Devon for a couple of days, stay away from established sites, look for peace and solitude to go sea fishing from the rocks.
I didn't get to go fishing.
I didn't get peace and solitude to properly unwind.
Spoilt trip and a waste of money.
Because I couldn't leave the motor home unattended and had to keep it where I could see it. It was not lockable.
My initial suspicion that this vehicle is no longer serviceable were confirmed in the first couple of days.
The renter was very , perhaps too, keen to get the paperwork signed and see me off down the road before I started checking things. I asked if the vehicle had been checked, the renter said he had just fueled it up and everything was fine. It wasn't.
The advert was just wrong, the only thing that met reality was the picture.
First stop on day one, someone walking behind the vehicle in the services pointed out that the rear near side brake light was not working.
No cab central locking, door lock broken ,cab only lockable from the inside. Locks and latches on external access doors broken.Could not leave the MH as is wasn't secure.
Gas not working, no hot water for a shower all week, same with the cooker. One of the two fitted gas bottles was empty and I tried to obtain a full one but apparently it is almost impossible to purchase Calor Gas in the South West, FloGas is the only option and suppliers do not take empty Calor bottles. I bought a portable camping gas stove and boiled a kettle on it for hot water.
Fresh water tank only had the bare minimum of water in it and ran out on the first morning. Toilet half full when I picked it up and it stank.
Front seats are dangerous, the driver's seat is beyond being serviceable and both do not rotate as they should.
Fridge freezer not working, portable chiller provided but didn't work until I changed a blown fuse in the dashboard.
Blinds and screens broken and damaged, the sun screens that should fit the cab are for a different model of vehicle and cannot be installed properly because the plastic window suckers/fasteners are missing.
Water leaking onto the cabin floor from under the sink when the pump is on.
Broken shower head, no o spray only a drizzle of cold water.
The original advert stated 'just bring your own towels bedding and food:. You need to take everything, not even a dish cloth or toilet roll is provided. The crockery consists of two mugs, a few plastic picnic plates, two frying pans and two very small saucepans. So not able to even cook a simple meal, say spag-bol.
Awning broken ,not useable.
I took my own camping chair, but there was no other camping equipment eg a folding table ,umbrella etc.
Air conditioning is advertised but not fitted to this vehicle.
Overall, the MoHo is not suitable for public rental.
It is apparent that the renter does not carry out simple safety checks or understands his responsibility to make sure certain very important SAFETY CRITICAL things need to be installed and working correctly.
On my return I mentioned all the above concerns and asked the renter to show me where the FIRE EXTINGUISHER and CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR were. He couldn't because they were NOT INSTALLED, the vehicle is fitted with an internal gas fueled water and air heater and CO is a serious hazard.
Overall, I still had a week away, but...
After bringing all the issues to the attention of the renter, he proposed that he would provide me with an alternative vehicle for a long weekend, to enable me to go fishing. (Peugeot)
I waited a couple of weeks, no call was received, so I rang again. He told me that there was an issue with the Peugeot but he would call me back within a few days 'leave it with me and I'll call you back'.
No call has been received.
BEWARE! IF you look at renting a camper or motor home in the Marple/South Stockport area be aware that the vehicles being rented are not private owners , they are part of a business fleet so ensure you carry out your due diligence before driving away.
Photos and video of the vehicle and issues identified above is available upon request.
