Wander – VW T6.1 Transporter

Our beloved campervan is not going on as many adventures as she once did, but we aren't ready to part with her just yet, so she's available to help other explorers get out into the countryside as a way of earning her keep. Bought as a panel van and converted by Autohaus in 2020, The Van Called Wander has been down into Cornwall and up to the Isle of Skye!

Located 10 minutes off the M6 at J40 (Penrith), we are perfectly located for adventures in the Lake District, Yorkshire, Scotland etc. We could even do the handover at Penrith Railway Station if that was helpful!

The layout is not the typical Transporter conversion - we are a couple with a dog rather than a family, so we opted for a layout suited to us.

The two seats in the middle of the van fold flat, meaning the downstairs can either have a single bed, two twins, or a double (ish - it requires some creative padding to make space for two to sleep downstairs, but it is definitely possible!).

The pop-roof is the alternative sleeping space, which will fit two but this is SNUG. We tend to treat the van as a giant bunk bed, one of us sleeping upstairs and the other downstairs.

You'll need to bring all your own bed linen and towels. We can lend you a camping mat to level out the beds and increase the padding if you need.

The kitchen is at the rear; there is a fridge with a freezer shelf, an oven, a two burner hob and a sink. There is no waste water collector for the sink, so you need to make sure you get the bucket under the van to collect it so that you don't just drop water on the floor of your pitch (which would be very poor etiquette). The van is equipped with plenty of plates/bowls/cutlery/pots & pans etc plus basics like salt, pepper and oils.

There is a shower connector in the back for washing muddy paws or kit/boots, and the final piece of living equipment is the toilet.

The van has a diesel heater and thermal screens for the cab windows. There's also the option of extra thermal layers for the pop roof should you be camping in the depths of winter.

Wander is a great van to spend time with and in. The cab seats swivel round to complete the bed set up in the main van, and having a tailgate gives you extra shelter when loading and unloading.

We're new to renting her out so happy to answer questions, and we're nervous about having other people use her, but we know she'll be happy to get back on the road exploring the Great British countryside!
